Hamlet of Sheffield 1 1/4" wide spindle roughing gouge in M2 high speed steel.  The overall length is 20.5" and the steel length from the handle ferrule is 6.5".  NOT FOR FACE-GRAIN BOWL/VESSEL TURNING!
An excellent tool from Hamlet that is used to quickly remove the corners from square stock in long-grain turning (between center work).  It is also exceptional at doing cylinders, straight tapers, shallow and wide concave cuts and lightly curved convex cuts.  It is not to be used for face-grain bowl/vessel turning as the tang cannot handle the stress in case of a dig-in--it may bend or break.
