These 8" CBN (cubic boran nitride--just below diamond in hardness) grinding wheels have distinct advantages over traditional ceramic wheels used in sharpening woodturning tools: extremely long life when compared to traditional wheels, wider work area (1 1/2" wide), keeps a flat working surface (no need to dress wheels), reduced grinding particles from the sharpening process (think of the dust from ceramic wheels as ground glass particles), cooler grinding action, better acces to the wheel when using grinding jigs (the grinder's guards can be removed since there is not chance of the wheel exploding as with traditional wheels). Available in two grit sizes: 60/80 grit and 180/200. I prefer the 60/80 as I hone for the the final refinement, while non-honers often prefer the 180/200 grit. For modern high speed steel turning tools the CBN particles do an outstanding job. Do not grind soft metals or steel on these wheel as they can be permanently damaged. Also, never dress the wheels with a diamond dresser. Highly suggested to purchase the machined bushing and washer available in this store for the wheels--running true and balanced is improved over plastic bushings used on most traditional wheels. I suggest an 8" slower speed grinder (1725-1800rpm) such as those made by Baldor, Jet, Delta and General International. I also recommend replacing the factory platforms with the Oneway Wolverine system. The 180/200 grit also has a small area on the side of the wheel for side grinding. MADE IN AUSTRIA.

I had this CBN wheel for over a year now and just loving it, just as the title says "not all CBN wheels are created equally" sure it's a little bit more; just like the saying you get what you pay for

Works great. Makes the life of my tools much longer.
