The large skew favored by Alan made in M2 high speed steel by Hamlet Tools of Sheffield, England.
Hamlet Lacer Skew 1 3/8" wide and 3/8" thick  in M2 HSS.  This is Alan's favorite size for doing a range of scale from micro-miniatures up to porch columns. This well balanced skew has great strength and lots of control, especially for harder woods. The area behind the short point (or heel) all the way to the ferrule is a fully rounded section that makes the tool glide and roll for some of the most common and difficult cuts with a skew. The handle is made of stained European beech. The edge is ground with a straight section that breaks into a curve--giving a number of advantages over a traditional ground skew.
