Comes with a 1/4" square shank spindle that must fit the existing latch mechanism--or you must install a replacement latch (usually under $10).
Wooden door knobs were once common, but now almost unobtainable. Using this kit designed by Alan will allow you to create unique shapes and details that are not available commercially. Also, unusual woods may be incorporated to really add a touch of custom quality. All essential metal parts are included: two shanks, a spindle, four black #8 screws and 2 nylon spacers for creating your own escutcheon plates. Wood is not included. In the December/January 2012 American Woodworker magazine Alan has written a story using this kit (designed by him). Instructions are also included with the kit. The spindle is square, so it only works on latch mechanisms with the square shank of this size (1/4"). Schlage makes a replacement latch set #40-250 Springlatch that works fine.
