Hamlet 3/8" Bowl Gouge UNHANDLED

High speed steel 3/8 bowl gouge made from a 1/2" round rod.  Unhandled.
Made by Hamlet of Sheffield England of M2 high speed steel, this is a great finishing size of bowl gouge or if you have a lathe that is lighter or lower horsepower  (such as many of the mini lathes on the market).  This is made from a 1/2" round rod, and uses the English method of measuring:  the outside of one flute to the inside of the other--so this is called in that system a 3/8" gouge.   I suggest you turn a handle of around 15" to 18" for this tool.  See my site www.alanlacer.com under "Articles" for information on turning handles.  
It is ground in the "traditional" manner being straight across as viewed from about.  This is a great shape to convert to either of the other two popular profiles:   fingernail shape or the swept back  or "Irish" grind.
