Hamlet Spindle Roughing Gouge 1 3/4" HANDLED

A very wide SPINDLE roughing gouge in 1 3/4" width. This tool is NOT for face grain bowl turning--never designed for such work, the tang can bend or break with possible severe and dangerous results!   It gets its name "roughing" for the action of removing the corners off of square stock during long grain (some call "spindle") turning and perhaps  broad shaping of the desired work.  Not veery adept at doing tight details.   Overall length is about 22", with the blade length of 5.5".  Handle is ash
